Open enrollment for individual and family plans for 2014 is expected to start October 1, 2013.
Most people will be required to have health insurance coverage starting Jan 2014.
The 4 levels of Health Insurance
coverage available from the California Health Exchange will be Platinum with 90% coverage, Gold with 80% coverage, Silver with 70% coverage, and Bronze
with 60% coverage.
Penalty will be assessed if you are not covered by health insurance when you file your taxes. The amount of penalty will increase and phase in over 3 years
starting in 2014. The penalty will be $95 or 1% of annual income which ever is greater. In 2015, it will increase to $325 or 2% of annual income and will be $695
or 2.5% of annual income by 2016.
